current reading material: I just finished the Peter and the Starcatchers series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson – thoroughly enjoyed all three. Such a fun “intro” to Peter Pan. Now I want to read the original book by J.M. Barrie. I’ve enjoyed different incarnations of the story for years, but never have read the original story (based on a play that Barrie wrote).

I’m also reading The Hole in our Holiness and Thinking. Loving. Doing. The former has been really helpful as I consider sanctification and moving toward being more like Jesus, and the latter is kind of hard slogging for my less than academic mind. 🙂 But it’s good too.

I also recently read The Forgotten God by Francis Chan, about the Holy Spirit – kindled a desire for operating more fully in His power.

current songs o’ delight: For my birthday, Kyle gifted me with some new, wonderful music and some old, favorite CD’s from about ten years ago. I’ve been loving Jon Foreman’s Seasons collection…really beautiful, pretty raw lyrically. Good stuff. I also love The Civil Wars new single “The One that Got Away”, though I’m bummed they are probably finished as a duo.

current projects: preparing for Jack’s fourth birthday party! he has requested a “Lion” party, which I am doing my best to create. Not on the grand scale of last year’s train party, but a lion theme nonetheless. 🙂 We’re having a small park party for friends on his birthday and then dinner with family on the day after.

current recipes I’ve tried:

My friend Janee told me about this recipe for Loaded Baked Potato Salad. Oh yes. It’s amazing. Bacon, cheese, sour cream and potatoes? mmhm. I almost doubled the the dressings and the bacon, and the potatoes taste best if you boil them in salted water. But yeah, it’s great with a freshly grilled burger and some corn on the cob.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the perch and walleye that Kyle and Jack caught on their fishing trip in May. I found this recipe for battering fish and deep frying and I’m totally sold. It comes out so perfectly and tastes incredible with this homemade tartar sauce. I’m just sad that we ate all the fish! Time to go catch more. Maybe Kyle will take me soon.

current hair color: dark brown, but slowly lightening with all the time I’ve been in the sun lately.

current events: last week, we enjoyed a lovely time in northeast WI, spending time in the north woods with our pastor’s family at Northland Camp. It was a kid wonderland and we had such a fun time packing in the activities each day. Much coffee and chatting was shared among the adults too.

upcoming events:

1. Jack’s FOURTH birthday. How is this possible? A week from tomorrow, my firstborn will be four. :sob: He has grown up so much in the past few months. He’s definitely a boy, and I’m so glad he’s ours.

2. Kyle goes to Cass Lake for a very long nine days. 🙂 The kids and I have many fun things planned while he is gone though.

current photos:

I love that her hair is long enough for little pigtails now. 🙂 And that she leaves them in!

current reading material: Don’t Make Me Count to Three by Ginger Plowman, recently finished: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I absolutely loved Unbroken and was riveted from the first page to the very end. Get it, borrow it from the library, download it to your Kindle – whatever. It is incredible. I’m learning some great concepts on discipline and training from the other book – the most helpful so far has been after Jack does something he shouldn’t, and the proper consequence is given, now we re-do the situation and have him respond correctly so we end on a positive. I also appreciate the attention the author draws to using the Word when communicating with our kids about their sin.

current songs o’ delight: I Won’t Give Up on Us by Jason Mraz. I heard this on the radio about two weeks ago and immediately loved it. I absolutely feel the same way about my relationship with Kyle. Never giving up!

current projects: keeping children clothed (including clean butt-wrapping), fed and mostly happy. 🙂 I need to put our Christmas cards into a photo book and actually MAKE some things I’ve pinned on Pinterest lately.

current recipes I’ve tried: I’m on a dumb diet right now due to some frustrating health issues, but when I’m done with that, I have some waiting in the wings to try! Double Coconut Muffins, and Homemade Lara Bars.

current hair color: reddish brown. I caved and did a box color to spruce things up a bit.

current events:

1. nothing too terribly exciting. Actually, my life has become pretty basic/non-thrilling. Tomorrow I’m taking the kids on a long walk and a quasi-picnic since the weather is supposed to be so beautiful. Highs in the 50’s and 60’s all next week. As soon as winter finally came, spring bit its heels and shooed it away. yay!

upcoming events:

1. Next weekend we’re attending the Future Grace seminar at Bethlehem Baptist. Should be good!

2. I’m really looking forward to Easter. I have this hankering to dress the kids in matching/coordinating outfits, but I hate to be “that mom”. lol. I’ll probably do it anyway!

currently…

I forgot that I used to do these posts every so often on my old blog. I came across the last one I did back in September of 2010 and thought “oh yeah! I should do a new one.” So here it is. 🙂

current reading material: I just finished “So Brave, Young and Handsome” by Leif Enger. It was great. Also reading “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. Ouch. It’s really convicting and super good stuff on following God in the reality of life. I am glad we’re going through it in our church small group. Skimmed “Exercising Through Your Pregnancy” and got some great activity ideas from “The Toddlers Busy Book” this past week too. So that’s my fiction, spiritual and topical “where I’m at in life” reading list for the past few weeks.

current songs o’ delight: Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. I have this weird thing for LOVING break-up songs. Like I don’t usually realize its a break-up song until I am in love with it. lol. This one is totally awesome. Her vocals are incredible and the melody and beat are just driving and intense. Loves.

current projects: spring cleaning. I was inspired to start doing it now before the weather gets beautiful so I’m done when I’d rather be outside! So nitpicky stuff like wiping down all the kitchen cabinets, the baseboards, washing windows, dusting high cobwebs, etc. 🙂

current recipes I’ve tried: jacked up banana bread by smitten kitchen. YUM. Made this into muffins this evening with some overripe nanners and man oh man…they are delish. I would reduce the sugar down to even 1/2 cup – I used 3/4 and they were slightly too sweet, but not bad. I love how Deb’s cake/bread recipes are almost all one-bowl preparations.

cinnamon sugar pull-apart bread by Brown Eyed Baker. This sounded soooo good, but didn’t turn out as fabulous as I hoped. I probably did something wrong but the dough was a little heavy and by the time it had baked in the middle, the ends were hopelessly dry. Nothing a cup of coffee or milk to wash it down can’t help, but it wasn’t AMAZING.

current hair color: almost my totally natural color. A few highlights and lowlights left in the lower half that have blended in well, but its almost completely the genuine article. Too bad I’m not a fan! It will be time to change it soon.

current events:

1. We went downhill skiing on Saturday to celebrate Kyle’s sister Molly’s 13th birthday. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had fun tearing up the hills. We had to get some practice under our feet for our big ski trip to Tahoe coming up next week (see below)!

2.  Ultrasound for Little Bit tomorrow afternoon! 🙂 I love getting to “meet” our kids for the first time. I’m praying that everything is as it should be and have been acknowledging God’s sovereignty even over this little life. It is His and He is in control. Can’t wait to see the little person!

upcoming events:

1. Trip to Lake Tahoe and environs next week!!! I’m so excited. We are vacationing with our awesome friends Rob and Rosanna and get to ski on real mountains for the first time in our lives. It will be an adventure flying with two very active 18 month old boys, but there’s four parents and two of them, so with that ratio, enough snacks and iPad/iPod movies and games we should be in good shape. I hope. lol.

2. SPRING!!! I sure hope its here and starting its transforming magic on the world when we come back from NV. 🙂 Please, God?!
